Our Vision, Ethos & Mission Statement
At Starlight Support Services, we believe that every young person has the right to a safe and caring environment that promotes their education, well being, and personal growth. We are committed to providing a nurturing, supportive, and consistent approach that enables young person to address their feelings and emotions in a safe and manageable way.
We offer residential placements for young person who require support to manage their behaviors and keep themselves safe. Our aim is to help them achieve positive outcomes, such as access to appropriate education, independent living, and employment or training. We believe that all young person have the right to participate and achieve success in education, be kept safe from harm, and be given opportunities to thrive.
We provide each young person entrusted to our care with an individualized care and behavior support plan, as well as an independence pathway, to meet their emotional, physical, medical, social, and educational needs. Each plan sets out agreed outcomes for the young person, and we regularly monitor, review, and revise it in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
At Starlight, we recognize and respect the individuality of each young person. We empower them to make choices, promote their rights to dignity, privacy, safety, and security, and involve them in planning their support. We value diversity and uphold anti-discriminatory practice. We maintain confidentiality and adhere to our core values and key principles of service safety, effectiveness, caring services, responsiveness, well-led services, integrity, accountability, respect, choice, and diversity, and stewardship.
We adopt a 'good parenting' approach and provide consistent and fair boundaries that enable the young person in our care to move forward, achieve their goals, and prepare them for the future. We understand that many young person have experienced fractured family life and disrupted education, which has damaged their confidence, trust, and self-worth. Our objective is to provide a safe and secure environment that replicates the feeling of belonging and being valued by a family/community. We support young person in dealing positively with their feelings and fears and understanding their rights and responsibilities. We manage negative and challenging behavior in a supportive and professional way, enabling the young person to put things right, and return to and rebuild positive relationships as soon as possible
